Dr. David Greven, Assistant Professor of English at Connecticut College

David Greven's book, Men Beyond Desire: Manhood, Sex, and Violation in American Literature (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005) examines the figure of the sexually inviolate male in Irving, Cooper, Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, and Stowe. Greven specializes in nineteenth-century American literature, with a special emphasis on Hawthorne and Poe, Hollywood film, and issues of gender, sexuality, and aesthetics. His new book, Manhood in Hollywood from Bush to Bush, is currently under publisher’s review. He is working on a new book on Hawthorne, Hellenism, and narcissism.
