William Heath is a professor emeritus of English at Mount Saint Mary's University. He is the author of a book of poems, The Walking Man; an award-winning novel about the civil rights movement in Mississippi, The Children Bob Moses Led, a historical novel, Blacksnake's Path, a neo-noir crime novel, Devil Dancer, and a work of history, William Wells and the Struggle for the Old Northwest, as well as fifteen scholarly essays on such figures as Melville, Hawthorne, Twain, Thomas Berger, and William Styron.
