In 1808-9, the brick structure at 133 Washington St. was erected was erected as a residence and store by Cpt. Abel Lawrence, Salem merchant. In 1825 the building next door at 137 Washington St. and 34 Front St. was constructed in a similar style. Both buildings were restored during Salem's urban renewal in the early 1970s.
