Established in 1655 as Pickering Hill Burying Grounds, this cemetery on Broad Street is one of four cemeteries in Salem containing the graves of many of Salem's earliest citizens. The Broad Street cemetery is currently considered an endangered resource as many stones are broken and worn, and many areas are overgrown. Moreover there is no plan yet for preservation.
