Samuel Chase Coale

Sam Coale teaches American literature and culture at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. His two latest books include The Entanglements of Nathaniel Hawthorne: Haunted Minds and Ambiguous Approaches (2011) and Quirks of the Quantum: Postmodernism and Contemporary American Fiction (2012). He delivered a paper on Hawthorne as tourist-as-romancer in Florence in 2012 and in the Berkshires in 2014 on his relationship to nature, both at Hawthorne conferences. He is completing the editing of a book of essays, “Teaching Hawthorne.” He most recently lectured in Japan, Lebanon, and Jordan.
