American Literature Association Annual Conference

Walking tours of Hawthorne's Salem and other events sponsored by the Salem Maritime National Historical Site (NPS) (All events are free and open to the public)

All tours meet at the Hawthorne Statue on Hawthorne Boulevard. A ranger will lead a one-hour walking tour of sites featured in a new NPS booklet "Nathaniel Hawthorne's Salem."

Tour dates are:

Saturday, April 3, 11:00 am
Saturday, May 1, 11:00 am
Saturday, June 5, 11:00 am

Other Events:

Sunday, May 16, 2:30 pm: Living History Program: Meet a customs official who worked with Hawthorne in the late 1840s and hear his recollections of the author. The Custom House, Derby Street, opposite Derby Wharf.

Sunday, June 20, 2:30 pm: talk by historian John Frayler on the Custom Service at the time of Nathaniel Hawthorne.The Custom House, Derby Street, opposite Derby Wharf.

Sunday, July 4, evening: Fireworks and Celebration sponsored by the City of Salem. Salem Harbor.

Saturday, July 17- Sunday, July 18: Salem Maritime Festival with special appearances by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
