Hawthorne Bicentennial Panel Discussion Series at Salem State College: February-April
To celebrate the Hawthorne Bicentennial, Salem State College will hold the following
panel discussions at 7 PM. Panels will last about 90 minutes, and a question/discussion
session will follow. All events are free and open to the public.
"Hawthorne and Biography," Wednesday, February 18, 7pm, Martin Luther King
room, on the second floor of the Ellison Campus Center. Panelists: Brenda Wineapple,
(Union College), author of the new Hawthorne biography, Sam Coale (Wheaton College),
Robert T. Derry (Minute Man National Historical Park), Frederick Newberry, (Duquesne
"Hawthorne and the Woman Question," Wednesday, March 10, 7pm, Martin Luther
King room, on the second floor of the Ellison Campus Center; panelists: Lucinda
Damon-Bach (Salem State College), Melissa Pennell (University of Massachusetts,
Lowell), and Melinda Ponder (Pine Manor College).
"The Political Hawthorne, What's Next?" Monday, April 26, 7pm. the Underground,
in the basement of the Ellison Campus Center. Margaret Reid (Providence College),
Arthur Riss, (Salem State College), Rick Millington, (Smith College), president
of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Society, and Jonathan Arac (Columbia University).
