Literature Related to Hawthorne's Adult Life

The Hawthorne in Salem Website is delighted to have received permission from Alison Hawthorne Deming and the Louisiana State University Press to post Deming's poem from Science and Other Poems in which she reflects upon her great-great-grandfather's life and personality.

"Hawthorne" a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

On May 23, 1864, Longfellow wrote this poem as a tribute to Hawthorne who died in the early morning of May 19th.
